Confidential letters have by this morning's mail reached me from two former Governors of Hongkong; and by each an opinion is expressed, singularly corroborating the view which His Excellency Sir Hercules Robinson has taken as to the worthlessness of the newly acquired territory, if the Royal Engineer department be not restrained within reasonable bounds.
I am sorry that I do not feel justified in quoting from the private letters I allude to — but I may at least suggest that Sir John Davis and the George Bonham's are both in England and that from them the most valuable opinions may be obtained.
